Professional Project Guidance and Ongoing Support

for Self Builders and Renovators

Homebuilding Essentials helps homeowners understand what to do, when to do it and how the different stages of a project connect together.

by Oliver Steele-Perkins MCIOB, Chartered Construction Manager.

You’ve secured planning permission and have a clear vision.
Now the project needs to be defined, coordinated and prepared for construction.

Homebuilding Essentials provides structured project guidance and ongoing support, helping you understand what to do next, when to do it, and how each decision moves your project forward.

Most homeowners don’t need a full-time project manager. But they do need the right structure.

Building is exciting, until you realise how overwhelming a building project can be.

You’ve submitted your planning application.
You’ve got a vision.

But now the real questions begin:

Who do I hire, and when?

What does this actually cost?

What comes first / next?

What are the steps between here and building?

Why is everyone telling me something different?

The Real Problem

The construction industry is fragmented.

Everyone explains their part. Architects design, builders construct, suppliers sell.

Very few explain the whole process.

But who explains the whole journey?

Most homeowners are expected to coordinate complex decisions without ever being shown:

  • the correct sequence

  • how costs connect together

  • how procurement affects programme

  • where delays usually begin

  • how consultants and contractors should align

That’s where mistakes happen.

Homebuilding Essentials exists to give homeowners the structure, clarity and professional guidance the industry rarely provides.

Who Homebuilding Essentials Is For

Homebuilding Essentials is designed for homeowners undertaking:

Self-build projects

Major renovations, extensions and remodelling projects

Projects where independent guidance can help reduce risk and improve decision-making

Whether you're at the early planning stage or already progressing through design or construction, Homebuilding Essentials provides structured support throughout the project journey.

After 25 years managing complex projects, I noticed something:

Homeowners don’t lack advice.

They lack joined-up, professional guidance across the whole project.

Most rely on individual consultants working in isolation. But that does not cover the gaps between decisions, timing and responsibility.

That is where projects lose control.

After years managing complex builds, tendering contractors, coordinating consultants and preventing six-figure mistakes, I created Homebuilding Essentials to bring that structure to homeowners.

It connects the project journey through Plan It, Build It and Certify It so decisions are made in the right order, at the right time, with the right guidance behind them.

“ Because this isn’t “just a project.”

It’s where your family will live.
It’s your biggest financial commitment.
It’s months of coordination, communication, and decisions you’ve never made before.

When you understand the journey
everything becomes calmer, clearer, and easier to lead.

Hi, I’m Oliver Steele-Perkins MCIOB, Chartered Construction Manager.

I’ve spent more than 25 years delivering new-build homes, major refurbishments, and complex residential projects and continue to actively manage projects through the full project journey, coordinating design teams from planning, managing contractors, resolving issues, and guiding homeowners through decisions that genuinely matter.

One of the projects I managed, Hill Top House in Hampshire a striking oak-frame, sustainable family home was featured in Homebuilding & Renovating Magazine and recognised for its eco-conscious, modern-meets-agricultural design.

Along the way, I’ve also built a trusted network of:

  • Architects

  • Structural engineers

  • Cost planners

  • Interior designers

  • Smart home & AV specialists

  • Self-build finance brokers

  • And industry-leading structural warranty broker

And I’ve seen first-hand how hard self-build becomes when homeowners aren’t shown the correct process.

That’s why I created Homebuilding Essentials so you don’t have to learn any of this the hard way.

“An exceptional Head of Construction — committed and consistently excellent.”

Oliver combines deep technical knowledge with practical site awareness and a methodical approach to project management.

His ability to manage complex residential projects involving design, programme and budget coordination was exceptional.

He communicates professionally with consultants, contractors and clients alike, bringing structure, confidence and trust to every project.
